Just want to comment on one of your comments on small towns.
My parents met at the dance hall in Bertha. Your in-laws were the ones that introduced them. Did you know that?

No, I didn't know that, but I know Marybelle loved your mom Sue and they were great friends.

I was in the Bertha dance hall a few years ago. One man now owns all of Bertha and there's not much left but the Dance Hall is still there. He had his children's high school graduations in it.

Bertha is this non-existant anymore town in the very center of Burt County Nebraska.
All that's left are about five decrepit houses, one of them lived in. but htere's this old dance hall. It's huge, with a big arched roof and twenty or more foot high ceiling and railings all around a second floor. but it's derelict, you know, dangerous to be in. The guy who owns it stores stuff in it and he cleaned it out...a huge effort...and has his three children's graduations in there, for old times sake.
Older people talk about dances in Bertha and Lawrence Welk used to play there when he was up and coming.
There are lots of long gone towns out in the country. One called Spiker and another called Basford that don't have a single building left. But people will say, "He grew up in the Basford neighborhood." and everybody knows what that means.

Mary thats like here a near by district use to have a Church, Hall and school (the school closed when i was about 7) the Church about 20 years ago and i htink the dance hall is still there. I dont think they ever had a shop or post office but it was a big district.
its name is Lochaber. there are still decendants of the pioneers of the area farming there.
