WRITER FRIENDS!!!

I had a great week.
I got to see writer friends on two SEPARATE days.
First the booksigning in Sioux Falls with Erica Vetsch and Rose Ross Zediker.
Sue Schmidt was there too but we didn't get a PICTURE. Rats, I missed that chance. She was really nice. It was the first time I'd met her.

Then I went to the Abraham Lincoln Exhibit at the Durham Western Heritage Museum in Omaha with my IN Group. That's Iowa/Nebraska IN, get it?
Left to right.
Me, Audrey Hebbert, Cathy Richmond, Lorna Seilstad, Dawn Ford and Abe.
The exhibit was really interesting.
Lunch went on for almost long enough...not quite.
We never seem to get all the way done talking.

Baptist Cowboy

A cowboy, who just moved to Wyoming from Texas, walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more. The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, "You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time."

The cowboy replies, "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona, the other is in Colorado. When we all left our home in Texas, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself."

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.

One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss."

The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs. "Oh , no, everybody's just fine," he explains, "It's just that my wife and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking."

"Hasn't affected my brothers though."

So true

"I find the process of self-promotion excruciating. I'm sure there are plenty of people who think 'she's so tacky.' And I say: 'I have four children to feed. I wish I had the luxury of not being tacky.'"

Six More Weeks of Winter? Ask him!...I mean her!

***update***
This little guy gal, born into a blizzard in the night.
He She didn't see his her shadow for so much as ONE SECOND.
My cowboy goes out and checks several times and found him her about 5:30 am.
And brought him her  into the basement.
He She is resting comfortably (the calf, not the cowboy) even though he she was born into
ONE DEGREE BELOW ZERO TEMPERATURES.
And speaking of resting comfortably, as I look more closely at this picture,
I think THAT'S MY GOOD COAT HE'S SHE'S SLEEPING ON!!!!
Sigh
From where I'm standing it looks like we've got a LOT of winter left.
Happy Groundhog Day
