Missouri Flood of 2011

So we were just minding our own business...driving on roads with big barricades across them.
But not ALL the way across, of course.
And we came to what can only be described as a 'rough spot' in the road.
Yes, this is across a road, note the electric poles.
They still work.
I know someone past this road, their house on a high spot
that is now an ISLAND and they still have electricity.
I took these pictures with my phone.
Then, because I don't know how to get them off my phone, except I can PHONE them to someone
I phoned them to my daughter and she knows how to email them.
Her phone is smart...mine...or maybe ME...not so smart
We got out to consider our options.
Here on the left is My Cowboy, saying he thinks we should put our ride in 4-wheel drive
before proceeding down this road.
BTW his shirt is NOT pink.
Do not make the mistake of thinking that, or worse yet SAYING that.
There is confusion, awe, worry. This is a mess.
Thousands have lost their homes.
The acres of farm land that won't produce a crop...huge.
The NOISE was a surprise.
The river is moving fast all this way away from the main channel.
The water just roared while we stood there and watched.

We had this on 31 over to Mo Valley a couple weeks ago. 'Caution, water over the road.' I'd never seen that before!

Also, love that dude's awesome dusky mauve shirt.

Coral, Sherri. or maybe ... light red.

We just stared and listened and stared, honestly a weird, fascinating sight, and the mind just boggles at the damage being done by these flood waters. It's been this deep for over a month.

Can you imagine the structural damage to buildings/roads/bridges from months and months of moving water filled with debris? Yikses.

Since I'm far and away in Lincoln, I appreciate seeing these pictures, Mary. Those of us not directly affected need to be reminded the flooding is still going on--even if it doesn't make the evening news.

On my way to the east side of town this afternoon there was a blinking sign on the highway warning drivers that I-29 is closed. So, it must not be any better going south.

Yikes! I hadn't heard about the floods being this bad! Time to phone home!

That shirt is definitely pale red. :)

I'll be driving carefully around those parts in just a couple of weeks. Maybe I'd better bring a boat.
