To answer your closing question on the blog post, geographic inaccuracies in fiction don't bother me when I'm reading, but misusing and misquoting famous historical figures does. Uninformed people tend to take those things as facts. Example: Dan Brown and The DaVinci Code. He practically started a new cult with the gross historic inaccuracies he published.
